Today, on this day, June 25, 2009, not only myself, but the world, has suffered greatly at the loss of not only just and entertainer but an ICON. The death of Michael Joseph Jackson has come as a major shock to us all.
As a young child, my favorite musical artist had always been Michael Jackson. Although I was born in 1985, three years after the release of "Thriller" and two years before the release of "Bad", Michael Jackson was the prominant musical fixture in my young life. Growing up all I knew was the Jackson 5, the Jacksons and most prominantly, Michael Jackson. I can remember my parents buying me the Jackson 5 albums to add to my Michael Jackson collection and me singing every song every day of the week. I can remember placing countless posters of Michael Jackson and Michael Jordan on my walls and calling my room the "M.J. Room". I can remember dancing and spending countless hours trying to learn the choreography to every Michael Jackson video that came on the tv. I also spent countless days and nights watching "The Wiz", "Michael Jackson's Moonwalker" and "The Jacksons: An American Dream". To sum it all up, I consider myself a "true" Michael Jackson fan. I can recall my mother buying me the "Beat It" jacket with the zippers and creating my own "Michael Jackson Glove" to pretending I was hiim in concert singing his songs. For some, these may be things that one may be ashamed to say they did when they were young, but for me, it's all truth. Michael Jackson touched my life and so many other's lives through his music. Any special that came on dealing with him, I watched. Anything that was anything dealing with Michael Jackson, I tried my best to be along for the ride. Even after his legal troubles began to surface, I remained a 'ride or die' Michael Jackson fan, unlike those who were quick to jump off an throw stones at the man or those who continued to joke about the things he was going through, his past, his childhood or whatever. None of that mattered to me because the music was what it was about to me. We're all human and have our troubles. With that said, this post doesn't do justice to the way I feel about not only the man, but the ICON, now angel. Michael Jackson has done so much for us and I'm blessed to have had the opportunity to witness greatness at it's best for 24 years. My prayers definately go out to his children and the rest of the Jackson family. Michael, I know you can hear all of our prayers and cries. We love you and will surely miss you, FOREVER!
